A green roof is not just good looks – it is an engineered system that starts with two questions: can the structure carry the weight, and which type of planting suits. Eurokas installs green roofs so the covering laid beneath the vegetation stays watertight for decades – because reaching it later is expensive.

What the green roof installation service includes
We do not lay plants on just any roof. First, with the structural engineer, we assess the load, check the existing waterproofing and only then design the layer system. Our scope covers everything between the covering and the plants.
- Assessment of load and structure
- Waterproofing with a root barrier – installed or verified
- Laying of drainage and filtration layers
- Substrate placement and planting
- Overflow detailing and first-year maintenance
Two questions decide everything
Whether the structure can carry the extra load, and which type of green roof suits. The whole system – layers, planting and maintenance – follows from these two answers.
Extensive or intensive
We choose the type by how much the roof can carry and how you want to use it.
| Trait | Extensive | Intensive |
|---|---|---|
| Vegetation | Sedums, grasses, mosses | Lawn, shrubs, even small trees |
| Load on the roof | Low | High |
| Maintenance | Minimal | Regular |
| Use | Not walkable | Amenity space, terrace |
How installation runs
Installation follows a strict order: first reliable waterproofing with a root barrier, then drainage, filter, substrate and only finally the planting. Each layer has its function, and one skipped or swapped means a problem later – under all the vegetation.
Waterproofing under planting – no room for error
If roots penetrate the waterproofing, a leak under the vegetation is very hard to find and repair. So the root barrier has to be continuous, without gaps, and its joints sealed with particular care.
Quality control and warranty
Before placing the substrate we check and photograph the waterproofing and the root barrier – the only moment they are still visible. Those photos stay with you together with the warranty on our work. We also tell you what maintenance the first year needs so the planting establishes.
Where we work
We install green roofs in Vilnius, Kaunas and across Lithuania, and for larger projects across the EU. We work on private houses, commercial buildings and developer projects.
Frequently asked questions
That is the first thing we assess, together with the structural engineer. An extensive green roof needs less reserve than an intensive one, so a solution is often found even for a structure that is not especially strong.
It depends on the type. An extensive roof needs a few inspections a year; an intensive one (with lawn or shrubs) needs regular work, like any garden.
Yes, and it is even beneficial – the vegetation cools the modules. It is important to co-ordinate the bases and access for maintenance in advance.
Yes, if the structure carries the weight and the waterproofing is sound. If the covering is old, it is worth renewing it first, because reaching it later is expensive.
Considering a green roof?
We start by assessing the load and the waterproofing – only then do we talk about planting.
